Equal Food is a Portuguese company founded in 2019 in Lisbon by Alberto and Lukas, created with the ambition to rethink how food is valued and distributed. By working directly with local farmers, the project rescues fruits and vegetables that would otherwise be discarded, not because of their quality, but simply because they do not meet conventional cosmetic standards.
The initiative addresses a systemic issue: millions of tons of perfectly edible produce are wasted each year across Europe. Equal Food intervenes at the source, giving these imperfect products a second life while ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation for their work. This approach reduces waste, shortens supply chains, and makes fresh, seasonal produce more accessible.
Built on principles of fairness, transparency, and environmental responsibility, Equal Food promotes a different way of consuming, where taste, origin, and seasonality matter more than appearance. By reconnecting consumers with local agriculture, the project contributes to a more balanced relationship between producers, food, and the people who consume it.
